Multi-room zones

In a zone, several speakers play the same music at the same time in different rooms. One speaker leads the zone; the others play whatever it plays.

Zone or stereo pair?

A zone spreads the same music across several speakers, each playing in full stereo. A stereo pair turns two SoundTouch 10 into a left and a right channel. It has its own guide: Stereo Mode.

Create a zone

  1. Tap the speaker name at the top of the app. The Select Speaker list opens.
  2. Tap Create zone. The speaker you are currently controlling is already checked.
  3. Check the speakers that should join. As long as only one is checked, the button reads Choose more speakers.
  4. Use the Zone volume slider to set how loud the joining speakers start.
  5. Tap the button, which now says how many speakers the zone will have, for example Create zone from 3.

Which music keeps playing

  • If exactly one checked speaker is playing its own music, that music continues across the whole zone. The bottom of the list tells you beforehand what will keep playing.
  • If several checked speakers are playing their own music, the app asks Which music should play? – you decide which one stays.

Edit a zone

  • Below the speakers of a zone, the list shows Edit zone. Check or uncheck speakers and tap Apply.
  • The speaker leading the zone shows a lock instead of a checkbox. It cannot be removed on its own – use Dissolve zone for that.
  • A speaker currently playing in another zone can still be checked. Its row tells you where it plays; it moves over when you apply. Exception: if it is currently unknown which speaker leads its old zone, the app changes nothing when you apply and tells you so. Start the speaker search, then try again.
  • When editing, Zone volume only applies to speakers that are joining. Speakers already in the zone keep their volume.
  • If you have several zones, they are listed at the top under Existing zones. Tap one to edit that zone. A zone is named after the speaker that leads it.

Dissolve a zone

Open Edit zone and tap Dissolve zone. The app does not ask for confirmation: the music keeps playing on the leading speaker, and you can regroup at any time.

Volume

  • The zone slider shows the average of all speakers. Moving it makes all of them louder or quieter together.
  • Each speaker in the zone also has its own slider, so you can adjust individual rooms.

Turning on and off

When a zone is selected, the power button switches the whole zone. If you turn it back on within about two minutes, the app restores the zone. After that it is dissolved and you create it again.

If a speaker cannot be checked

Its row tells you why:

  • Offline or Checking status: the app cannot reach the speaker right now. Check power and Wi-Fi, then try again.
  • Set it up for your account first or Claim it first: the speaker does not belong to your account yet. Tap the notice on its row in the list.
  • Stereo pair broken — repair it first: a stereo pair is incomplete. Repair it first, then it can be checked.
  • If the app is missing network data for the speaker, select it briefly and try again.

Good to know

  • A stereo pair is a single row in the list and joins a zone as a whole.
  • Removing several speakers at once takes a few seconds: the app waits for each speaker to confirm before removing the next one.
